Watchdog groups have called on CNN to investigate the deadly shooting of the two men at the theater in Orlando.
“It’s very troubling that a mass shooting at a theater in the heart of a major city could happen in the middle of the night in an environment where people are going to watch movies and go to bed,” said Jessica Rich, executive director of the Campaign for Accountability, a nonpartisan watchdog group.”CNN has a duty to investigate this incident and the fact that the shooting was so quick that they didn’t have time to investigate it,” she said.
“They should have had the security video of the shooter and should have done a follow-up investigation.”
The National Rifle Association also slammed CNN’s handling of the shooting.
“The NRA strongly condemns the senseless and unprovoked attack in Orlando, Florida, on Sunday night.
The Orlando shooting shows once again that our nation is at war,” said Dana Loesch, executive vice president of public policy for the NRA.”
While the NRA condemns the violence of this gunman, we also know that there is a need for more than words to end gun violence.
The NRA is committed to ensuring that any attempt to reduce the availability of deadly weapons will not have a chilling effect on our society.””
The only way we can truly prevent another tragedy like this is to protect the rights of law-abiding gun owners,” she added.CNN has not yet responded to requests for comment.
The FBI has released a video of its own investigation into the shooting, but it has not been made public.CNN will air a live report of the investigation on Sunday at 11 p.m. ET.
